As a nail biter, I have come to appreciate what having nice nails feels like – and it feels great. As much as I wanted nice nails growing up, my nail biting habit was a serious one. I’d been addicted to biting my nails probably ever since I saw my dad bite his. They’d become a comfort for me to bite when I was stressed out, nervous or just bored. After moving to London and as I started to earn more, I figured I’d treat myself to some acrylic nails and they honestly have changed the way my hands look and feel.

There was so much redness around them from where I’d bitten the skin for so long and I thought they’d be scarred. Since wearing falsies all the time, the swelling and redness has reduced and they look so much better than they’ve ever done before. When it comes to getting my nails done, I tend to always go with acrylics, but recently I’ve tried out gels a few times. The only thing with gels is that I need to keep on top of them, otherwise my nails are so weak underneath that they’ll snap easily. I always go into the nail salon with my nails looking a little worn and then when I come out, that feeling of fresh nails is like no other.
Getting them done is more important than I realised. It shows that you’re giving yourself a bit of pampering and self-care, which can really come in handy when you’re going through the motions of life. If you’re having a bad day or week, it can be a really nice pick me up. It also shows others that you take care in your appearance as having nice nails is so much better than having nails which are bitten to the point of bleeding. No one wants to shake your hand when it’s like that! However, the only thing that I do struggle with is opening a can of coke. But that’s why my fiance Sam is around to help in situations like that.
Picking out the colour this month, I went with a festive vibe because it’s Christmas season of course. The sparkly rose gold is perfect for the holidays and it the colour of my nails reminds me of a french manicure but instead of the white tips, it’s frosted.
