When it comes to finding inspiration, a lot of the home decorations I’ve bought are from specific resources that I’ve seen online or in a physical setting. I like to take inspiration from a number of sources and I love find quality pieces that have come from more independent brands, than the more commercial companies. However, I’ve got nothing against the big dogs! If you’re looking for some home decor inspiration, then here are five places to find it.
Pinterest
Pinterest is probably one of my favourite sources and it tops the Google search engine for me too. You can search for specifically what you’d like to see and it wil come up with a variety of ways how people have styled that item of furniture into their home. If you’re for certain colour schemes, then this is the perfect place and it’s also how I ended up decorating my main bedroom in grey and mustard yellow. The inspiration that you can through this platform is great. But be wary, once you slip down the rabbit hole of pinning content to your boards, hours might pass by and you’re still pinning. It’s addictive to say the least.
Your Friends Or Family
Your friends and family can be a really good place to find inspiration, even if you end up copying some of their styles and making it into your own. Creativity is theft and so if you like something that a friend or family member has done, then use it in your own home. There’s so much inspiration I’ve found through looking at posts that my friends post up and features part of their home in the background. When you own your home or even rent it and have the freedom to do what you want with it, it’s a great project to do for yourself and to make a property feel more like a home that’s welcoming and comforting.
Go Traditional With A Magazine
I feel like it’s been forever since I purchased a magazine and it’s because the online world dominates so much of the market right now that people don’t really need to bother with purchasing a magazine or newspaper when they have it all available and for free online. However, there’s nothing like getting a magazine, ripping out inspiration and pinning it to your wall or to a mood board. I used to do that a lot when I was little when it came to celebrity crushes or fashion. It’s something that’s now seen as old-fashioned but it can still provide you with a lot of physical and visual inspiration.
Attend A Show Room
A lot of indepedent shops and stores around the country and all over the world, will have showrooms. MADE has a number of stores that are laid out to style out the furniture they’re selling, something that IKEA has also been doing for years. It’s effective because it helps do a lot of people’s work for them when they’re trying to furnish their home. They may as well just purchase everything that’s been featured in the show room, than have to look elsewhere for other furniture. It’s a great selling technique and one where you’ll be sure to find plenty of information.
And for those that love social media, Instagram is a gold mine for content. There are so many hashtags that you can search within Instagram and it’s just like Pinterest, where it features so many different home styles. I’m loving Instagram at the moment but my aim is to not worry too much about the numbers. I’m hoping to get some content up on there that features my own home in the coming weeks.
