This one is a mixture of home decor but also to do with my personal health. Unless you’ve been living without the internet or contact from anyone for the past few months, you’ll have missed all the news around this new virus that has been declared as a pandemic around the world. The coronavirus has recently put the UK on lockdown and as someone who lives in London, we’re in the heart of the country and it’s very scary. Myself and my partner, fingers crossed, will hopefully have avoided getting it as long as we keep our distance from people and continue washing our hands as advised. My mental health has definitely taken a knock and I think I’m realizing that this means that I sleep in later than normal and that I’m also demotivated to do anything at all. And that’s not helpful when I’m self-employed and the work that’s coming in is very far and few between. So this weekend just gone, I focused on cleaning the entire flat. And that also included fresh bedding.

When we changed the bedding, I got Sam to use the white bedding that we got for Christmas. It’s such beautiful bedding and it reminds me of hotel bedding. White is a colour that’s typically very clinical but I find it calming too. It definitely makes me feel a lot more grounded and everytime I walk into the bedroom at the moment, I feel at ease. With all the chaos that’s going on in th world right now and while we’re confined to our homes, it’s important to make it peaceful and tidy.
There’s nothing quite like fresh bedding, am I right? That crisp feel of bedding that’s just come out of the wash and that has a wonderful scent to it. I love how it feels and I certainly feel a lot better for it at the moment when I climb into bed. Fresh bedding helps my mental health in a number of ways and I thought I’d share with you what they are so that it encourages you to make these small changes to your home in order to feel a lot better.
It Pushes You To Make The Bed
Whenever I have clean bedding on, it makes me want to keep motivated in making the bed once I’m up. It’s only towards the end of the week when the bedding has lost that clean smell that I end up leaving it in a crumpled mess. Having bedding with minimal creasing as well can help it look nicer for longer. There’s a lot of mental and pyscological benefits from making the bed in the morning, so if you’re not doing it already, it’s time to start doing so. Saying that I’m always catching an un-made bed in the background of my IG stories, so I’m not one to judge if you don’t make your bed.
Tending To Your Sense Of Smell Is Important
Your sense of smell is a powerful thing and it can certain impact your mood. Whenever there’s a bad smell, we immediately feel like are sense of smell has been violated. It’s not nice but when we smell something really good, we feel a wash of happiness over us and at a time like this, we need that more than anything. I use both a tablet form of detergent in my wash and also a fabric softener with the same scent. That way, the scent is twice as strong and hopefully lasts that little bit longer.

Helps You Sleep Better
Being able to sleep better is important and when it comes to the quality of sleep, it can be made better if you focus on making your bed something that you won’t want to get out of. It should be a struggle to get out of bed in the morning because you feel so well rested, and not because your body is in agony from a poor matress or uncomfortable pillow. Fresh bedding helps comfort you and I certainly find my sleep gets better the first night that I sleep in fresh bedding, it’s just so relaxing.
It Sparks Joy For Your Household
And if you are a fan of Marie Kondo, then you’ll know all about sparking joy in your household. Everything you own and posess in your life, including your home, should be a joy. If your bed doesn’t spark joy, then there’s likely something that needs changing. Whether it buying new bedding or purchasing a new mattress. You want to be buying some new bedding every so often, especially when it’s become worn or tired-looking.
