Find The Perfect Spot
The first thing to do if you want to create a cosy reading nook is to find the right place for it. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be a big space (and actually, a small one is going to be a lot more cosy), so you could just use a corner of a living room or bedroom if that makes sense for you.
The key is to look for a spot that’s away from the main traffic of the rest of the house so you can enjoy reading in peace because, after all, that’s the point of creating this reading nook in the first place.
And if you can, pick a place by a window so you’ve got natural light coming in because that’s going to make it much more pleasant.
Choose Comfortable Seating
If you want to be able to use your reading nook, you need to have good seating in it that you’ll be able to sit in for as long as you want and need to – in other words, comfort is the key thing to consider.
One way to find good furniture is to check out second-hand shops because it could be you’ll find exactly what you want there (and remember, because this is your reading nook, the chair or sofa doesn’t even have to match the rest of your furniture).
Alternatively, search for sofas for sale near me if you prefer something new, and you should be able to find just the thing to suit your budget.
Use Layers And Textures
To make your reading nook extra cosy, using layers and textures is a great idea that’s sure to make you love the space and want to use it more often (which is brilliant because reading is so good for you). Plus, it might mean your family wants to use it too, and if it encourages kids to read, then it’s got to be a good thing.
One thing you could do is to add a throw blanket or two to your chair or sofa – that makes it even more comfortable, and in colder seasons it will make it warmer and super-cosy as well. Then you can also add some squishy cushions to create a snug, inviting space.
As for the floor, adding a small rug underfoot can make all the difference. And of course, don’t be afraid to mix and match textures; this is your space and you can do whatever you want with it.
