Seal up your doors and windows
One of the most common reasons your house is cold in the winter is draughts coming in through your windows and doors. These can not only cause a chill to come inside, but also the warm air from your heating system can quickly escape. Avoid this by upgrading your doors and windows to ensure they don’t have any gaps at the sides, top or bottom through which draughts can enter and hot air can escape.
You can also seal these if you’re looking for a budget-friendly fix. Don’t forget to sort out your rooflights too! These are a great choice as they let in plenty of natural light and create a brighter and more open interior to your home, something particularly welcomed in the winter months.
Sort out your drain system
One system that is essential to the smooth running of your home, is your drain system. This is what will keep the water from things like floods flowing away from your house and stop any flooding or burst pipes.
Blockages and old pipes can also cause leaks inside your home which can be disastrous and cost a lot of money. If you do suspect any issues with your pipes or want your plumbing to be looked at, it’s a good idea to speak to your local plumbers to get them to sort it out for you as soon as possible. This will help it get sorted before becoming more of an issue.
Ensure your heating is working
There is nothing worse than being stuck inside a freezing house because your heating isn’t working, so make sure you get it sorted before the temperature drops too much.
It can be that you need to bleed your radiators if they haven’t been used in a good few months and they might need a good clean too. Dust can build up quickly and cause ventilation issues. If you hear any funny sounds from your radiators or if they’re taking too long to heat up it can mean there is an issue to best get it sorted.
