One thing that I definitely missed out on when I was renting was the restrictions in what I could put up around the home. Me and my fiance have lived in London for over five years now and have spent the majority of that time renting. Renting really is a waste of money but for so many of those who live in London, being able to jump onto the property ladder is not something that can be easily done. Thankfully, we had help from family and we also had saved a substantial amount through the Help To Buy Scheme. With a brand new property and no restrictions, we could do what we wanted with our apartment and art was the first thing I really wanted to incorporate. I love art work and I think it gives an insight into an individual’s personality. I wanted artwork that was personal to me and so I wanted to show you what I’ve managed to put up so far. Styling a room with art is important to add to your home and here’s how I did mine.
The other three prints were A4-sided map screenshots of certain cities. When I was picking out the cities, I knew I wanted them to be in threes, just like the other prints. I really wanted one for Morocco or Agadir, to reflect on our time spent there and where we got engaged. However, the artist didn’t have that available and so instead I went for London, our home, Paris and New York.
They’re not particularly detailed in terms of being able to see road ands areas of each city but I love the design of these and that they have the coordinates underneath.
When displaying photos around your home, get experimental with the way you position them and lay them out. You want to take part of the wall and create a collage of photos that tell a story. The frames tend to make the art when you’re picking out posters, so when it comes to frames, make sure they suit your aesthetic in the space. Glass frames can be more pricier as the artwork gets bigger but it’s a great way of protecting art work, rather than leaving it exposed. Putting your photos onto canvas is a very popular style at the moment but be careful to pick thinner canvases that don’t stick out too much from the wall.
