Having left home at the age of 20, I got my independence pretty quickly and I had to become reliant on myself to get what I wanted. Living in an apartment now and fast forward a few years, I’ve grown up a lot and my attitudes to how I look after myself and my home are changing. Nowadays, I am a lot tidier than I used to be – and I was a messy person at university. However, that’s all changed and I realise the importance of having a clean and tidy home. It’s not only good for keeping everything in working order but it’s also great for your mental wellbeing. No one wants to come home to a messy home at the end of a hard, working day. So here are some tips to keep your home clean and tidy.

Try To Pick Up After Yourself
The biggest reason as to why the home will get messy is that things are put back to where they were originally placed. That can be something we all do, especially whne we’re in a mood where we feel quite lazy or lacking energy. It’s something that you want to try and nip in the bud but it could take some time to get it out of your system. I’m trying nowadays to pick up more after myself, otherwise you just end up with more mess. The fewer deep cleans you have to do the better because you’ll have likely done the majority of it throughout the week as life goes on.
Create A Household Schedule
A household schedule is something you’ll want to put together to ensure that you’re not the only person who is responsible for making sure the home is clean. When you’re living in a property, you have to share some of the workload that goes into keeping the home clean. Otherwise it’s a bit selfish to expect someone else to pick up your mess. Organizing a weekly cleaning schedule where someone takes an area of the home to clean once a week doesn’t require much effort and it can all contribute to keeping your home nice and tidy.
Use Mrs Hinch’s Activity Journal
With Mrs Hinch taking over the cleaning world, I knew I had to get her books so that I can do some hinching myself. Ever since I got her activity journal, I’ve managed to be much more active when it comes to cleaning and making sure I get things done each week. I think I’m going to have to get her to-do list one too because that’s probably what I’m using most of when it comes to the activity journal at the moment. It’s a great way of keeping on top of everything you need to do around your home and that’ll be different for everyone’s properties.
Declutter Regularly
A regular declutter is a must. Me and Sam currently do a deep clean and declutter in April every year. It’ll be our second time doing it and I love it. It’s a great opportunity to clean, wipe down and dust everything in sight. But not only that, it’s good to make sure that everything in the home has been sorted through to chuck out anything we don’t need. It’s important to do it regularly because there’s so much we can all bring into the home on a regular basis and it just ends up hiding in a drawer, never to be seen again until a year later.
