Shapewear has had many transformations, and now it is moving away from traditional beauty ideals and is now following a more diverse and inclusive approach.
This has happened because our society is having a shift towards acceptance and body positivity… Now each unique body is celebrated and we are walking away from the old beauty standards.
This shift in society has led brands in the shapewear industry to prioritize inclusivity and widen their product range, including wedding shapewear, that are now catering to a more diverse range of consumers and their needs.

How was the shapewear choice in the past?
In the past, the shapewear industry was often criticized because it promoted not only unrealistic body standards but also perpetuated the notion of perfection. Traditional shapewear had a focus on achieving an hourglass figure, which emphasized hips with big curves and a slim waist.
But they often came in a limited size range and failed to be the solution to a wider and diverse range of consumers and their body types. Many people felt excluded and couldn’t find the best shapewear for tummy or any type of shapewear that would satisfy their needs.
How has it changed?
Many brands have recognized the need for change and want to challenge the status quo. For example, the well-known shapewear brand Shapellx began to add inclusivity into its considerations. They have always been about empowering individuals celebrating diversity and generally making people feel confident in their bodies.
One of the strategies they implemented was expanding their size range, and by doing this they made sure that all individuals could find products that provided them the desired support level as well as having garments that fit them comfortably.
Let’s focus on the fact that being inclusive in the shapewear is not only offering butt lifting shapewear that comes in inclusive sizes but also, it embraces diversity in terms of gender identity, age, and skin colour.
Besides, being able to recognize that beauty comes in many forms, shapewear brands are making big efforts to represent a diverse range of models in their advertising, social media, and websites. This creates a sense of belonging for customers that they didn’t in the past with traditional shapewear.
Other aspects to consider
Now, the shapewear is also developing products that cater to some specific body needs and concerns. We are not seeing a one-size-fits-all solution and are being offered designs that address different body issues, for example, providing support to postpartum mothers or people recovering from surgery. Thanks to this, brands are helping their consumer feel confident and comfortable.
Now brands are also prioritizing being transparent and authentic, especially when it comes to their communication and marketing strategies. Now they are not relying anymore on their images being heavily photoshopped or portraying unrealistic beauty, we now get to see real people with real bodies showcased. This will help the customers have a sense of relatability and connection, making them feel represented and seen in the industry.
We can see how inclusivity in the shapewear not only has revolutionized how products are designed and marketed but also has a big impact on the way society now sees self-acceptance and beauty. When they challenge the traditional norms and are now embracing diversity, shapewear brands that embrace inclusivity and diversity are redefining beauty standards and promoting a more accepting culture.
