I’m pleasantly surprised that I don’t have the Christmas blues as significantly as I thought I would. I’ve really thrown myself back into work, but also finding the time where I wouldn’t have before, to chill out and enjoy the slower pace in life before everyone was back in the office.
We’ve certainly got a handful of decorations up around the home, and so it’s time to remove them all and get everything back in its boxes or collected/thrown away so that we can prep the home for the new year and all the other wonderful projects that we have planned.
If you’re stressed about getting your home back in check after Christmas. Never fear, here are some helpful tips that will ensure your home is back to its usual look instead of leaving everything up or lying around for weeks on end in January. If you worry about keeping your home clean and tidy after the Christmas period, you’ve come to the right place.

Got a real Christmas Tree? Get it collected for charity
This was the first year in our new home, and therefore, hopefully, the start of a long tradition of getting a real Christmas tree at Christmas. Yes, it’s definitely different than having a fake tree, but it’s the smell and feel of a real tree that’s become quite magical for me as an adult to have during the festive season.
Of course, the challenge is how to get rid of the tree, and this year, I took a look for services which collected the tree and allow us to donate to charity. We chose the Dougie Mac collection service, which collects your tree a good week or so after Christmas, giving you a bit of extra time to enjoy the tree before the year pushes onwards. The service cost us £20, which goes straight to charity. So not only are you recycling your tree efficiently, but you’re donating to a good cause too.
Take down decorations and allocate storage boxes
When it comes to our decorations, I like to try to get as much use out of them over the years as possible. That means making sure every bauble and festive decor is put away properly and in its own storage boxes. As opposed to just chucking it in with some other random bits of decor or odds and sods.
First, make sure to carefully take down the Christmas decorations and then pack them in a way that won’t damage them.

Be ruthless and dispose of anything you don’t need
It’s always good to be ruthless when it comes to decluttering and disposing of stuff. With Christmas decor, not all of it is going to last, which is why it’s good to do a check over of everything you’re putting away, just in case something is no longer working or looks the part.
Get rid of things you don’t want or no longer need. Consider donating these, selling them one, or discarding them responsibly if they’re no longer usable. It’s a good way of properly decluttering your space and getting everything ready for the new year ahead.
Keep hold of your gift wrapping supplies
I am a sucker for this, as I do tend to pick new gift wrapping every year. However, this year I definitely overbought on the wrapping supplies, so I’m actually going to hold onto what I’ve got left over. That way, I can then use what’s left and combine it with some other new wrapping paper that goes with the theme of last year’s.
Again, it’s worth it. storing these away in boxes to help separate them from any other arts and crafts you might have lying around the place.
Clean and reset
Give your entire home a thorough cleaning after you’ve taken away all of your home decor. Dust off all the surfaces and make sure to give the home that reset you need. It’s a great way to cleanse the home of the festive feels and to start the day off right.
Using this guide, you can guarantee getting your home back into shape after the holidays. It doesn’t need to take long. Being organised and asking for help is all you need to do.
