I’ll never forget when we walked into our apartment for the first time as potential home buyers. This was the last property of a few that we’d seen on the development that we were looking at and up until this point, we weren’t really keen on anything else we’d been shown. The property we were originally meant to see had been reserved and so we weren’t thinking that this would be our first home. That was until we saw the last property. I walked in, looked at Sam’s face and I think standing in our living and dining area, we both knew this was going to be our first home. When you feel that love and connection for a home, it makes the whole house-buying process even more terrifying because we didn’t want to lose out. Choosing a home with character for me is essential and I wanted to talk about the features that sold us this home and what I’m looking for in our forever property.

The first thing that struck us about this property was the windows. Now when looking around the development, the first property we were hoping would be perfect but ended up being reserved had original feature windows. Now that sounds amazing but actually it’s turned out to be a bit of a nightmare for those living in the apartments where they don’t have any double-glazing. Our apartment had all of it’s windows replaced to these double-glazed ones that make all the difference in keeping the cold out and the warmth in. It’s not so handy during the summer as the large windows make for a glass-house effect. I’m so glad that our apartment had the single-glazing replaced and it turns out that because the development was grade-II listed, the developers couldn’t replace all of the windows. Luckily we were fortunate to have all ours replaced!
The windows let so much light into the apartment and although there are none in the hallway or bathroom, the ones that we do have, more than compensate. When it comes to our next home, I would find it tough to have smaller windows because these are such a gorgeous feature to have in a home.

There’s a lot of character features that I’d love to have when it comes to our forever home. I love wooden beams along ceilings and a fireplace would be great. I’m a big fan of open-plan so I would love to have our dining room and kitchen the same as we have it here in our apartment. When it comes to flooring, I love engineered wood flooring because it’s easy enough to maintain and manage, while looking beautiful in any space.
