The only thing I really love about winter is the fact that you can wrap yourself in several layers and accessories in the hopes that you don’t feel the cold.
I have an assortment of coats, and as a result, I don’t think I actually need to get myself anything new for some time now. From long coats to short but fleece-lined options, there are some outerwear staples that I just feel every wardrobe requires.
Let’s take a look at four outerwear pieces that I’d recommend you have in your wardrobe this winter.
The soft trench coat
I’ve loved this coat ever since I laid eyes on it. Trench coats are highly fashionable and timeless, as they seem to always appear in the autumn and spring. They’re the perfect in-between coat, where it’s still fairly cold but not too much so that you’re having to get out the serious winter coats.
This one, I believe, is from H&M, but I bought it a while back. There are, however, plenty of alternatives below that you could look at buying.
I love the soft material of this trench coat, as typically trench coats tend to be more rigid in their appearance. This feels like it molds to my body, and although it doesn’t really fit my pregnancy body right now, I know it’ll be one I’ll feel comfortable in again post-partum.
The thick, longline coat
When it comes to my go-to coat during the winter, this one is my favourite. It was actually something my nan bought for herself, although a somewhat different choice as shes much shorter and definitely not as big when it comes to the sizing of this coat.
This longline-style coat is beautifully made. I’m actually not sure of the brand because there’s no indication of where it’s from on the label. The quality, though, is unmatched. It’s luxuriously thick and wool-like. The buttons are starting to loosen, so I’ll need to resew them so that they don’t fall off.
Here are a few alternatives if you like enveloping yourself in layers as I do during the cooler months.
The cropped fleece
A shorter coat is not something that I often wear because of my height. I find that they don’t really compliment my porportion, however this oversized cropped fleece is one that I feel has change my opinion on wearing them.
Again, this is a coat I purchased prior to my pregnancies, so it’s definitely become less oversized. However, it’s still a great alternative when I’m looking to keep warm but not drenched in fabric. This style is also widely popular and you won’t fall short on options available online.
The Barbour
And finally, the Barbour. The luxury brand that, for me, makes me feel like I own a farm and live in a large house somewhere in the Cotswolds.
It’s a beautiful fit, and I’d honestly say it’s one of those brands that really is worth spending your money on. I think this one in particular was around £200, and my most expensive coat. However, it’s a waxed coat, and I believe the quality is one that really lasts. Here are some of my favorites from the Barbour collection.
