Everyone wants to improve their home. Whether you’ve just moved into a new property, or you simply think it’s time to freshen up the place with an update, you have many different options. Large projects, like kitchen refurbishment, can take priority, but you can notice a surprising difference in your quality of life if you upgrade other rooms, such as the living room.

Update the Walls
The walls throughout your property are a bit like a canvas. They can be as unobtrusive or as flashy as you like, but they have a surprising impact on how a room can feel. Painting the walls is a quick way to update the colour scheme in a room. You will also notice how different colours and shades affect the room, as lighter colours can make a room feel larger, cooler, and brighter, while dark colours create a cozy and warm atmosphere.
One thing many people like to do is to create a feature wall, which is a wall with a contrasting colour or pattern to the others. This is a great option if you love a particular colour or wallpaper pattern, but don’t want the room to feel overwhelming. You can introduce something different and add an interesting feature, without much work.
Wall Art
On a similar note, no wall is complete without wall art. Wall art can range from posters to prints to paintings, and can even include sculptures, tapestries, or other more solid decorative features. The most important thing about wall art is to make sure that you love every piece of it.
It doesn’t matter what style the wall art is, or even if there’s a set theme. While there are interior design tips to help you to style your pictures, you need to remember that your house is a home, not a show property.
If you want artfully arranged wall art, then stick to a theme, either colour or subject, and use your paintings to tell a story. But if you just love the idea of putting as many framed pieces of artwork on a wall as possible, then go ahead.
Add a Fireplace
There’s nothing that makes a room look more cosy than a fireplace. One option is to install an open fire or wood burner, but this can be difficult depending on where you live. Many modern homes don’t have chimneys, making a real fire impossible.
The good news is that you do have other options. A gas fire can produce heat and a central point for your living room, or you could look into flame effect electric fires. These electric fires have a similar effect to an open fire, but are better for the environment. Not only that, but you can enjoy the flame effect without the heat, which is perfect for warm summer nights.
No matter how you choose to heat your room, curling around a fireplace will always be more cosy than hugging the radiator. Also, your fireplace can be the focal point of the room, rather than the TV.
